Professor Tanya Monro, 37, has been recognised for her work in photonics, dealing with generation and control of light using optical fibre.
Professor Don Bursill has been named Senior South Australian of the Year for his water management work.
Peter Goers of 891 ABC Adelaide is South Australian Local Hero, recognised for his contributions to community organisations and causes.
Aboriginal teacher Vincent Buckskin has been named Young South Australian of the Year for his efforts to preserve his traditional language and culture.
