South Western Sydney Local Health Network’s Aboriginal child and family health program, New Directions, is now called Cannalgalleon.
The naming day ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 1, and the new name for the program is a term from the Dharug traditional Aboriginal language meaning “her tribe”.
The program has been available since 2009 to families expecting an Aboriginal baby, offering support services to mothers and their families.
Director George Long said the program was a great way to engage families, which will help close the gap in health inequalities.
