NAIDOC Week celebrations start today at Bellingen library with a range of activities and to support the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Mayor Mark Troy said that until July 13, the library will have a display of resources about and by national and local indigenous people.
“It is a great opportunity to acknowledge and honour our Gumbaynggirr culture and heritage and I am looking forward to viewing the variety of items on display,” he said.
“Not only does the Bellingen 2030 Community Vision identify the importance of learning about the Aboriginal language and history but the library’s strategic plan has focused on expanding its indigenous resources.”
The resources purchased and on display during this week are available for loan and a number have been purchased from Muurrbay Language and Culture Co-Operative in Nambucca Heads.
