Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA)

caamaCentral Australian Aboriginal Media Association was established in 1980. CAAMA’s objectives focus on the social, cultural and economic advancement of Aboriginal peoples.

CAAMA aims to promote Aboriginal culture, language, dance and music while generating economic benefits, including training, employment and income generation. CAAMA produces media products that engender pride in Aboriginal culture and informs and educates the wider community of the richness and diversity of the Aboriginal peoples of Australia.

The CAAMA Group includes:
  * CAAMA Radio – A Radio network (8 KIN FM) broadcasting Aboriginal radio to remote and Regional Australia. CAAMA Radio covers 1/3 of Australia from the desert to the sea, from the outback to the city.
  * CAAMA Shop – The thriving retail, wholesale and distribution business of the CAAMA Group.
  * CAAMA Music – A unique music recording studio and record label which produces Indigenous music to present to the world.
  * CAAMA Productions – A Film and Television production company which produces world class programs about Aboriginal peoples: Our culture, lifestyles and issues.
  * Imparja TVImparja Television – A commercial television station that broadcasts via satellite to one of the largest television service areas (footprint) in the world. CAAMA is the major shareholder in Imparja Television and is actively involved in the management of the company.

CAAMA Production’s Nganampa Anwernekenhe series is the longest running Indigenous Language documentary series in Australia and, they believe, in the world.  It is the only series of its kind. The Nganampas have always been screened on Imparja Television, but in recent years ABC Television has picked up many films as have many international festivals and television channels.
