Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee (QILAC)

QILAC was formed in 2005 by Language Centre representatives and other language workers, in recognition of the need for a state-wide body to advocate for Indigenous languages in Queensland.

QILAC aims to:
* act as one voice
* coordinate language issues in Queensland
* establish a role as an independent body

QILAC's goals include:
* Assisting in the development of a state language policy/framework
* Developing and supporting the use of protocols and legal frameworks for persons involved with language
* Bringing together people interested in representing languages to:
o participate in the framework exchange experience
o advocate for language matters in Queensland
o network and support communities
o advise community of funding sources that can be accessed for languageS
* Working cooperatively with other state and national organisations and committees
* Supporting research and planning
* Supporting the development of resources.
* Encouraging the training of more language workers, speakers and trainee linguists.

The Queensland Indigenous Languages Advisory Committee was the prime consultation group for the development of the State Library of Queensland's Indigenous Languages Strategy. http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/info/ind/languages/slq

At present QILAC  represents the following language centres as well as a number of community language programs in Queensland: 
* Cape York Bama Languages Aboriginal Corporation - Cairns
* Korrawinga Aboriginal Corporation - Hervey Bay
* Nalingu Aboriginal Corporation - Mitchell
* North Queensland Regional Aboriginal Corporation Language Centre - Cardwell
* The Yugambeh Museum Language and Heritage Research Centre - Beenleigh
