We develop computing resources to support teaching languages in Sydney Schools.As well as supporting the reclamation of languages we encourage the use of IT for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge sharing.
The site includes online wordlists with sound and images. Languages being used in schools are: Wiradjuri, Dharag and Tharawal at present. Also we have developed software for the schools’ computer which can work with different languages to provide support for teachers to write worksheets and games. The software provides translation support include language parser.
We are working with other language centres to create computing support for further languages.
