The Yamaji Language Centre began operation in 1989, and was incorporated in 1992, forming The Yamaji Aboriginal Languages Corporation.
The Centre aims to Retrieve, Preserve, Maintain and Promote the Indigenous Languages of this region. It does this by:
* Working with Language Speakers, collecting language and cultural information; Working with schools to teach language to young children;
* Promoting Aboriginal Culture and languages through the medium of the Yamaji News newspaper (a publication of the Centre), and other media;
* Archiving of cultural material (uses of plants, medicines, art, ceremonies etc);
* Multi-media publishing of cultural and language materials; Support for families and communities to undertake their own language and cultural activities;
* Provide training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal people; Being a community resource for language and cultural information.
