A new education centre that will be launched in Alice Springs this week is aiming to teach Arrernte about their identity.
The Institute for Aboriginal Development will this week reveal plans for a new Arrernte culture and language centre.
Chief executive Janice Harris says the institute will make an important contribution to education in central Australia.
“We’re specialising in the Arrernte culture and we’re specialising in language in culture and we feel there are very few providers of that service here in Alice Springs, so we’re working in a need area that we feel isn’t being serviced,” she said.
