New executive principals will be offered unprecedented power, annual salaries of more than $200,000 and end-of-contract performance bonuses of $50,000 under a NSW government plan to lift educational outcomes at schools in “difficult” indigenous communities.
The new principals will be the highest-paid public principals in the state and 15 schools have signed up, Fairfax reports.
The plans will involve health and preschool services shifted into some schools and Aboriginal languages integrated into curricula, and schools will work directly with pregnant mothers.
“These are very difficult and complex communities. We’re not expecting to change the world in two years,” Education Minister Adrian Piccoli told Fairfax.
Teachers already employed at the 15 schools will be offered transfers should they wish to leave.
