As a part of their study of Languages Other Than English, the students at Koorawatha Public School have spent the last ten weeks studying Wiradjuri language and culture.
Under the expert tuition of Harry and Erin Lambshead the children have learned to greet each other, show respect, count and name animals and body parts in ‘Language’.
“They were even lucky enough to travel to Cowra High school to spend an afternoon learning Aboriginal dance at the feet of their award winning Dance troupe,” said School principal Catherine Briggs.
“The unit of work finished up with a day of celebration. The children dressed in traditional clothing, had their bodies painted and performed for their parents.”

The celebrations were led by Principal Catherine Briggs and local Elder Gloria Lambshead.
The school have recently installed a second flag pole and the Aboriginal Flag was raised for the first time on the day.
“Gloria thought that the day was wonderful and was proud to see the local children learning about traditional culture.”
